MJ,
Golub former ceo of AXP was on K&C last night. He said statistically every job exported abroad has produced 1.25 jobs here historically. He also said that when he graduated college in the 60s his IBM 1410 mainframe had less power than his palm pilot does now. He brought that up in response to the question of what jobs will replace those going to india? He said there were a few thousand folks working in the computer industry back then, now there are probably hundreds of thousands here who work in the computer industry. I guess those are the jobs that replaced the textile jobs etc that disappeared in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Yup new skill sets required. I happen to know someone who was blue collar textile worker, taught himself computer tech and now is a retired multi-millionaire. I guess folks just cant grasp this stuff so its easy for demagogues to appear. What replaces the call center and tech jobs going offshore to india only time will tell but we free traders have history on our side. mike
