This is an interesting point that Dr. King raised:

We are adding cynicism to the process of death, for our troops must know after a short period there that none of the things we claim to be fighting for are really involved.

A large troop rotation is in pgrogress - it will be interesting to hear what the returning troops say about their experiences there. After all, many will be talking to their friends, colleagues, churches, schools and community groups about their experience. Some, no doubt will talk to the press and the public at large about their wartime experience.

If the troops are predominantly cynical about the war (this remains to be seen), it could have some effect on Bush's support within the military.

It will be interesting to see to what extent, if any, the returning troops become a factor in the election.
