Straw man? What straw man? LB has already pointed out that the article appears to be a small snippet of a larger speech. Much may have been left out that clarifies matters. The reporter may be busily grinding an axe. We have no way of knowing. To judge him on this is probably less fair than judging Clinton on "I DID NOT HAVE SEX WITH THAT WOMAN!"

I'm sorry if you mistake my clarification of the argument for strawmen, but it remains clarification.

You did never did answer the question "Do you prefer an army that runs?" The fact that those men didn't is the reason you are free to criticize the Army. There are many countries where that is not the case. Maybe rhetoric such as his is necessary to inspire them to hold their ground. He is COS; his remarks are read by many, including his soldiers. Is he supposed to wrap them in molly coddle to avoid offending your delicate ears at the price of the morale and fighting spirit of his men?

While the free speech rights of military men is more limited than civilians, it still exists. Why are you a champion of everyone's rights but his? Did he give up his American citizenship when he signed on the line?
