<Just a credible motive is all I ask for.>

Before you believe everything that you've been told, try this on:

The ship almost certainly intercepted communications (or the Israelis thought they did) bearing hard evidence of their loading nuclear weapons from their bunkers in possible first strike attack on Egypt, with whom they were in active war. Remember, Israel was setting their sights on the Suez peninsula and lands beyond for economic, strategic (the canal), historical, religious and cultural reasons.

This is where Moses talked to God. Go drag out your Cecil B. Demil, The Ten Commandments. If you can get past the heavy-handed Charlton Heston posturing, its not a bad flick. The love interest is quite hot, BTW, but I digress.

Israel has no 1st strike survivability and if it thought that Egypt was going to hit its nuclear bunkers, even with conventional weapons, or borrowed soviet nukes, many, most or all of the weapons would be unusable. The Israelis are known to have re-routed a shipment of enriched uranium rods with enough plutonium to make pits. Many of them. Some of the smartest people on the planet were and are Jewish and they have supplied their talent in producing bombs. They had means, motive and opportunity. In a court of law, that'll put you away for 20 years.

Further, (See article previously posted) it is known that they received 850 fast triggers whose only use is for pits (the plutonium cores that trigger weapons). Finally, the Israelis have always maintained "constructive ambiguity" (use that as a literal keyword in Google, you will find the correct context).

It is unfortunate that some of Bush's most ardent supporters and who would otherwise consider themselves Patriots would let a little pip-squeak country hold the U.S. by the nuts for 50 years.
