Nadine, we in NZ pay tribute to the USA megalomania. I pay lots of taxes via my ownership of QUALCOMM and in taxes on profits via our purchases from USA companies [Big Macs, Mobil, Microsoft etc].

The USA also knows that power comes from trade, as did the British Empire. Cash flow is the best power food. Better even than religion.

Personally, of all the power centres around the world right now, I'm happiest with the USA system, which is why I support it. That includes New Zealand's, which I consider detrimental to human good with violent criminals paid by the state's welfare system to pursue their evil work. I prefer the USA to the UN.

But it's a work in progress.

USA megalomania is only limited by democratic political exigencies which are answerable to the cultural norms of USA voters and those cultural norms are a product of decent hands which rocked the cradle.

<Fortunately for you lot, we don't believe that power comes just from a gun.> Fortunately for you lot too. Those who depend on guns don't have a happy life. Look at the school system there for example - security screening for guns to stop pupils shooting each other. Screening everywhere. Security everywhere. Life is much more gentle here. The police don't even carry guns though they increasingly have them available.
