Um, maybe you should ask E how seriously she took that WTC attack.

I said "taking over the world." I didn't say "blowing up a chunk of our home turf and population." I'm not making light of the WTC attack, only pointing out that your retort doesn't come close to the scope I specified.

Over 3000 people were killed in the towers. What should the response be?

Are you back on that retribution kick? Maybe we should nuke Mecca. [That's a private joke, folks. Don't get all exercised.]

Do you really think Japan had snowball's chance in hell of taking over the world?

Germany and Japan had already taken over a pretty good chunk of the world, the relevant world, anyway. Yes, they were on track to world domination. Not that that outcome was assured, but their prospects were promising. These guys in the ME are relative pipsqueaks. You betcha WW2 was a bigger deal. And the cold war was an even bigger deal yet. The Islamicist risk at this point in time pales to the point of disappearing in comparison.

WTF? This is a logical argument?

You sure can turn things around. The point about the bird flu is that there are lots of risks out there. Bird flu has as good a chance of doing massive damage here at home as the Islamicists. It's irrational to be fearful of the Islamicists when you ignore other equally weighty risks. Why are we preparing for a potential smallpox attack and ignoring a bird flu epidemic?

You asked a bunch of questions so I answered them because I knew you would fuss at me if I didn't. I hope we don't get off on some tangent like appropriate responses to 9/11. Once more for the record, my point was about fear, not response to an attack. My argument is that you're fearful while I'm not fearful and I don't think all this fearfulness is neither warranted nor constructive. Let's focus on one thing at a time. If you want to change the subject, go ahead, but then it will be your argument at issue, not mine.
