I do understand that the regimes would be threatened. I don't think the countries would be threatened. When Friedman talked about rapprochement, he didn't specify the regimes but simply listed the countries.

This guy makes it pretty clear that he has figured out he is calling the shots.

Maybe Dubya can invite him to Crawford.
