As this episode slowly unfolds, soldiers continue to die in Iraq. Al Qaeda is moving into Iraq and indications are that the quagmire effect is slowing setting in. Any comments?

Sure.. it doesn't matter if the information underlying Iraq's WMD program is inaccurate..

Because it was not the responsibility of the UN, or the US, to prove that Iraq was fully disarmed. It was the Iraqi government's responsibility to prove to the UN inspectors and UNSC that it was in compliance by fully accounting for all of it's weapons and materials...

So if there are no WMDs in Iraq, at least we can feel confident of THAT EVIDENCE, since nothing that was accumulated previously resulted in credible evidence.

But does that mean that Iraq is a quagmire? Hardly.. Over the coming months and years, Iraqi security will increasingly be the responsibility of the Iraqis and whatever government evolves (or if ultimately necessary, is imposed by the UN)...

And if it is a quagmire, then it's one the UN needs to deal with, since it was the UN's utter inability to deal with Iraqi aggression against Kuwait, then Iraqi intransigence with it's disarmament process..

But Iraq is simply too important to transitioning the Middle East from depotism and militancy to modernization and moderation...

Some battles are worth fighting... Most US soldiers serving in Iraq understand that, and they understand that this was from where Islamic militancy struck at the US...

And they understand that if there is to be a frontline against Islamic militants, it should be on Arab ground, not on ours.

So who do I listen to... you or them?
