I wouldnt focus too much on NEM and debt, issues, highs
the main question should be...
what will they do with the money raised by equity or debt ???

if the answer is "expand production of marginal mines"
then full speed ahead

if the answer is "to pay off hedgebooks"
then caution ahead

if "pay enormous stock options and gilted bathrooms"
then red light, exit

I would not conclude NEM is selling stock at the highs
I would say NEM is selling stock after a well-deserved run
this is an event (including November) that I have long awaited
the gold industry needs badly for NYSE support
equity offerings are exactly how to bring that about

I would not touch NEM stock
it is the biggest among the big gold miners
so what the hell is their upside growth potential?

they will probably overpay for numerous other acquisitions
which will hurt their stock price growth trajectory
(reduce their upward slope in share price)
but help enormously the little explorers and minor producers

Rumors, I wish I could start one. My biased choice would be the NEM is buying MDW.v but it is probably wishful thinking. NEM is drilling all over their Midway property in Nevada (600 drill holes) and their Spring Valley is getting respectable results. I do not think that they need to increase the amount for an acquisition of Midway though. However MDW did close up C$.14 on Friday but on low volume. "California Dreaming"
