One thing that has become very apparent with this intense press coverage of Democrat Primary is that WashDC is a company town, where the impenetrable line of lobbyists have insulated both congress & national press from average American attitudes. No one pays attention to the latter group until election time. The revolving door is not solely for lobbyists--the network/cable reporters use that door as well & DC has become just one self-protective entity that rarely focuses on the multi-millions living beyond the beltway. Finally, the voters views are being aired & Bush Adm will be shocked to hear how the real but ignored owners of the country actually feel.

I wonder why they did not do so during the Clinton years. Instead Microsoft and Hp and several other companies pressured the Clinton Govt. to increase HI visa quotas so that they could get workers to fill vacant positions in the US.

The economic cycle was in such a place that companies couldn't afford the time to market disadvantage in producing offshore in the 90s. These things happen when the environment is a little less competitive like today. The networking area for example has only a few mainstream competitors left, JNPR and CSCO for two. The new product cycle release schedule has been slowed down by 50%.

Microsoft is half the company they were with all this offshore R&D, which is good news for us Linux people. I think msft/hp/intel actually *know* they are less competitive with offshore labor (that is my personal opinion) which is why they are lobbying for this Bush immigration plan.
