I can't say I would be surprised about a turn to violence on either side. If a liberal Democrat starts to mouth some of the litany of reasons for changing the system, and that shows signs of gaining traction - bye, bye. OTOH, if a major Republican figure is assassinated, it's obviously time to declare martial law - the rabble is getting "out of hand".
