I think the Dems owe a debt of gratitude to Dean. Dean gave the Dems their fight back. He showed how the voters really felt when he collected 40 million on the internet. That told all the other more traditional candidates that they had a disenfranchised electorate on their hands, at a time when all the polls said Bush in 04 was a foregone conclusion. Also Dean showed that it is possible to be popular with the far left and also have a fiscally responsible message (roll back tax cuts). The traditional dems co-opted Dean's message but if they had not, Dean would have won in Iowa imho. Dick Gephardts "miserable failure" was taken right out of the Dean playbook. I think I told you once that 4 mos ago the only thing Edwards was doing on the air was apologizing.
