Yossarian, on the night of the Iowa caucuses, Clark came on Larry King show on CNN and made that comment to Senator Dole who was Larry's guest that night. Even Dole rolled his eyes in embarassment. My read of Dole's body language was that he (Dole) himself is a war veteran like Kerry and if Clark id demeaning Kerry's service to the nation. then he was also demeaning Dole's record of service.

I heard that remark live and my impression of Clark fell right from that very minute. On that Iowa night, two candidates self destructed, Clark and Dean. And two got a boost, Kerry and Edwards.
