If P/S is the right metric, then the devil is in the details. What sales number to use? Forward projection? What day's stock price to use? Date the fiscal year ends?

As you know the highest AMAT sales were in 2000 [ending Oct 2000, I think quicken.com]. By the time those sales figures were reported, stock price had already dropped significantly from its peak.
