I agree it's a time bomb- but it's one we can prepare for, and I doubt it will extinguish civilization as we know it- although the remote possibility exists- but then so does the possibility of being creamed by a killer asteroid.

Your concerns are legitimate ones. However, as bad as nutrition and health care might be at various places on earth now, that is no comparison to the nutrition & healthcare, or lack thereof, that existed in those places centuries ago. As humankind managed with those diseases for millenia without complete annihilation, so much better shall we manage today, with better understanding of nutrition, healthcare, sanitization, medication etc.

You are right that today's frequent travellers complicate the patterns of disease spread. However, for the first time in history, we are actually prepared for contagious outbreaks, with watchdog organizations in place.

Frankly, I am not concerned about a disease wiping humanity out. I might die, so might you and and everyone we know. But enough of humankind will survive to go on. It always has...
