I can respect that.

A lot of people are always after me to tell them war stories from when I served in the trenches during WWI, but I tell them it's just something I'd rather not talk about.

Sure, will we see a new action figure soon to match the "flight suit Bush" figure? Maybe "combat attorney Jallen?"

For a guy who thinks the details "denigrates the whole idea of what military service to one's country means" you certainly seem to feel that dropping lots of implications of military service doesn't denigrate anything.

"Your doubt notwithstanding," I suspect that the huge number of voters that saw a glimpse of the combat character of Kerry would disagree that the "details" don't matter.
