VWPT news,

Viewpoint Corporation's Media Player Penetration Surpasses That of Windows Media Player 9, QuickTime, Flash 7 and RealPlayer, a New Study Suggests
Monday January 26, 1:58 pm ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 2004--An independent research study conducted by Ipsos-Insight of media player penetration within a statistically significant sample of 2,190 U.S. Internet users reveals rapid growth for the Viewpoint Media Player. The results placed the Viewpoint player ahead of more well-known brands such as Windows Media® Player, RealNetworks® RealPlayer® and Shockwave®.
The study found that the Viewpoint Media Player, created and distributed by Viewpoint Corporation (Nasdaq: VWPT - News) - a leading provider of visual application development, content assembly and delivery technology - had a penetration of 64.3 percent, among study participants, up more than 9 percentage points from a similar survey conducted in 2002.

Ipsos-Insight also determined that Viewpoint Media Player surpassed:

Shockwave (58.1 percent penetration);
Windows Media Player 9 (57.5 percent);
Real Networks RealPlayer (46.5 percent);
Apple®QuickTime® (43.1 percent); and
Flash(TM) 7 (34 percent).
"This is proof of how users rely on the Viewpoint Media Player to view cutting-edge 3D and video content and for accessing the full power of the information available on the Internet," said Jay Amato, Viewpoint's CEO and president. "Through our partnerships with leading publishers, Fortune 500 companies and original equipment manufacturers and through new initiatives using our technology, we expect to continue to enhance the viewing experience for many more Internet users in the United States and abroad."

The survey, commissioned by Viewpoint and conducted in December 2003, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.14 percent.

The player penetration announcement follows the revelation (independent from the Ipsos-Insight study) that Viewpoint technology is unaffected by the Microsoft Active X conflicts now being experienced by other technology providers.

"We've always known that our technology is a reliable, robust choice for consumers in search of rich experiences on the Web," added Amato. "Now, more and more users are discovering how Viewpoint can transform their world."
