Yes. I agree. If you participate in ugly posts, even simply as a target that posts back, you contribute to the ugliness. Better to ignore it, and let the uglies have one way ugliness, than to make it two way. I watched Mephisto do that. She began to just ignore people who talked about her, or who talked to her in an impolite way- at least as far as I know she did. I didn't see her respond. I liked that, so I've adopted it as a model of model behavior. There is no way to cure the ugliness on the net, since it comes from within certain posters who use the net to work out their anger, or stress, or whatever, or maybe they just have poor models of what communication should look like (who knows, and who cares?)- but to interact at that level, is, imo, to contribute, even if you are not working out your anger in return.
