stockman,
It's part of the reality of being a Republican senator. John McCain appeared on CNBC morning after the budget was passed & stated that the system is corrupt as demonstrated by $10B pork contained in GW Bush's budget. He said if Bush Adm was serious about controlling spending they would veto the budget until the obscene amount of pork is removed. In order to survive politically after making such a critical statement about his party's elected leader, he has to make nice with public appearances for GWB. That's politics & is sometimes similar to trying to balance a dozen eggs on one's head in order to demonstrate a little independence. That's especially true in the Repub party, where the insider who makes critical remarks is called a "loose canon" or some other negative label.
