The potential fire hazard of the lithium-ion batteries,
along with their being toxic was pretty well beat to death
on this board back when Li-on was initially emerging. Perhaps with the tens of millions of them now in circulation
something may yet come of this potential problem. The Japanese certainly cannot say they were ignorant of these inherrant problems.
