I think the American voter likes it the way it is now. Most money spent does not equal a victory in all cases. In IL, Carol Mosely Braun spent the least and still won in the senate in the 1990s. Paul Simon and his 50K net assets beat the Millionaire incumbant candidate in 1980s. Clinton beat the more wealthy George Bush and Perot.
