I did not say "no demand" you are twisting. Ledgerdemain does not travel well on a written chat board.

HP, I am sure will offer an Opteron, but I am not exactly sure what that will "prove" other than "as opposed to why not".

And it's dollars of sales not chips.

But the law of mass production is immutable. At present 64 bitness is not a volume concept. At least Intel has figured this out and done what they seem to refer to as market segmentation.

It is sort of like Chevrolet selling the Corvette with a welded trailer hitch towing a Saturn. Both have a purpose and a use and a target market but it is cost prohibitive to satisfy that particular target market which needs to have both cars at the same time.

It...costs...to...much...to...make on a per unit basis. And note that YOU MUST amortize AMD's six years of R&D into the cost; otherwise economically speaking, you have what is called the "nimble dividend" rule. You have one quarter or other time period of profit, and years of loss. You have to contemplate the years of loss.

Just when do you think AMD is going to start to show the cost of the German Plant on thier income statement?

Just a guess. :))
