I had always thought they had originally been written in Aramaic.

An Evangelical who worked with me-he enjoyed the fact that I was going to burn in hell-went back to school to learn Greek so he could read the originals.

Biblical scholars postulate a source document for the Gospels, which they call "Q" (for "Quella" or "source") which they think was originally written in Aramaic, then translated into Greek. The 4 Gospels were written in Greek, plus most of the non-canonical gospels as well.
