B: Governor: Calif. tax refunds ready to roll ( United Press International )

WASHINGTON, Jan 27, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger announced Tuesday that Californians who overpaid the vehicle
license fee will soon receive their refunds.

State officials said the California Department of Motor Vehicles will
electronically transfer the refund data to the state controller and that refund
checks could hit the mail as soon as Friday.

"This is fantastic news for vehicle owners," Schwarzenegger said. "My first act
as governor was to repeal the car tax increase. Today's refund completes one of
my most important promises to the people."

By the time the last refund checks are cashed, Schwarzenegger's action will have
returned an estimated $600 million to approximately 4.7 million Californians.
