Of course Rush Limbaugh has a "difficult time understanding" how anyone who was so outstanding in combat could be so against the war he fought in. Rush has never fought in any war and he lacks empathy and therefor cannot understand the real cost of war. Men like Kerry know the real cost and expect that those that send men to pay that cost will require that the cause be just, the ends be attainable and that the sacrifice be shared by all of society, not just those who can't bump someone out the National Guard and take their place. I know just what would make a man who served in Vietnam act as Kerry did. I got off the plane from Vietnam and then tossed my certificates and medals for valor, my purple hearts and every other medal I'd been given into a trash can at the base I'd landed on. No one was there to see it and I did it for myself, and for myself only. The real enemy of people like me that fought in the jungle was not the North Vietnamese soldiers we fought, the real enemies were the lifers that sent us and the politicians that valued our lives so meagerly that they continued a war that had, at best, questionable merit and no sound winning strategy. I despised Johnson, I despised Nixon and I despise Bush for that same quality of sending others to do a job that they would NEVER, EVER do themselves. If they were on the line and getting torn apart and watching their buddies getting torn apart, the justification for war would have to meet a far higher standard. But then people like you and Rush Limbaugh will NEVER understand the reality of what I'm telling you because you don't have the depth.
