You know what I think, Kenneth? I think Clinton could have cleared the air a long time ago in Iraq. But his hand was forced by the GOPwingers. Given how GOPwingers unfairly had jumped all over Democrats with charges of being weak on defense, etc., Clinton thus needed to keep a bogeyman in order to flex military muscle. Saddam was convenient.

Consider when the GOPwingers PR heap placed Monika's lips into the public consciouness, all over Teen America, all over the nation, placing Clinton in a difficult position--what did Clinton do? He, pulled out the weapons inspectors from Iraq (contrary to Bush's oft-parroted lie, Saddam kicked 'em out) and used his Iraq card, his Saddam of convenience play, to resume bombing in Iraq.

In fact, the time consumption for Clinton on the unfounded charges against him in the Whitewater-Lewinski matter probably impacted lots of presidential areas of concern, and it might well have become difficult for Clinton to do what he otherwise might have wished to accomplish. Small American farmers could be trading with Cuba, as another example.

It was a lie of omission for Cheney, in a 2002 speech to the 103rd VFW Convention, to cite Saddam's son-in-law's mid-90s statement that Iraq was close to nuclear in the late-80s, but not also site the other part of that statement noting that Iraq had destroyed and buried its WMD.

It was a lie of omission for the US to ignore what the UN chief weapons inspector, Rolf Ekeus, said at a speech in Harvard near the turn of the century, that the inspectors had done their job and destroyed everything there was to destroy.

Bush lied and they died!
Bush lied and we died!
Bush lied and truth died!
Bush lied and mothers cried!

Can't ya hear Bush lying
Don't ya know they're still dying
Can't ya hear the ring of Bush and Cheney in your ear
Spreading wide ruinous gospels of fear
Can't ya hear Bush lying
Can't ya feel mothers crying

Bush lied and lied and lied
No matter how hard our soldiers try and try and try
All they do now is die and die and die
'Cause Bush lied and lied and lied.
