Re Edwards vs. Clark, the latter has been anointed a "southerner" by the press, but I don't think the south will take him as one of their own. He seems to me a guy who would be more comfortable in a think tank than at a barbeque. Sure he grew up in Arkansas, but I consider that as much a mid-west state as a southern one. He doesn't seem to be from any place in particular, to me, other than the military. If you want a guy who is going to play well in northern Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, etc., Edwards is the guy.
