If the Uconn girls stand around waiting for Taurasi to bail them out I agree with you. No way will they beat Duke but more so a Pat Summit team. If they "all" play the way they are capable (with in reason) of I think they are still the best team out there this year as far as the women teams go.

As far as the Uconn men....ditto what Jeff said.

Hi Mark,

I've seen the polls. UConn (women) are currently ranked 3d and 4th in the two major polls. I don't believe that either poll has the women's rankings correct at the moment. The UConn women's team is the best in my mind, no question about it. They simply have to play that way come tournament time.

I've seen Duke, UConn and Stanford play (on television), and UConn has the most talent. Granted, they haven't played like a talented team thus far, but there's plenty of time for them to get their act together and start blowing out the competition consistently.

On the other side of the coin, the UConn men's team faces too many challenges in the Big East. Syracuse, Pitt and Providence are all excellent teams, very capable of beating one another silly when the stars and the planets align in their favor. Additionally, St. Joe's is also a big name on the east coast. So to me, it appears unlikely that the UConn men's team will gain a #1 seed and will therefore be playing a tougher tournament schedule than if they were to secure that #1 position.

On the men's rankings, in my opinion, a lot of weight has been granted to Duke because of their successful basketball history, and great coaching. But (again in my opinion), the powers in basketball this year are in the Big East. I think that Duke will get knocked out of the NCAA tournament early. They're just not the dominating force in men's basketball that they once were. Neither is Kentucky, Kansas or North Carolina. While they're all very, very good this year, I see it as a crap shoot as to which teams will survive in the tournament. There's just too many teams with tremendous talent. The talent is fairly evenly spread out across many conferences. An injury here, an inadvertent foul there and one bad play in a tight game can mean the difference between survival and "wait until next year"...

Again, just one person's opinion. Other opinions might be equally valid... <g>
