your question assumes that the answer to the problems you cite is increased taxes. It is therefore an argumentative question. I don't agree with your premise and don't have time to debate tax policy with you, which is why I ignored your question. My bottom line response is that spending has to be controlled and that soaking the taxpayers with higher and higher taxes is not the answer. If you are of a socialist bent, and think the European system is better, then more power to you. I don't think most Europeans would agree with you. I sure don't.
