Hardly anyone was so anti- semitic as to be exterminationist. It is nonsense to say they agreed with Hitler. Why do you think his activities elicited such horror? And they certainly did not agree with his expansionist and hegemonic aims.

Everyone was agreed that Hitler had to be stopped, but there was reluctance to engage in direct military action, so appeasement was attempted. It did not work. That is the analogy to the present: Bush, like Churchill, advocated dealing with the threat sooner rather than later, and had no faith in the means proposed by Chamberlain and others.......
