Spot gas at AECO, the Canadian benchmark pricing point at a gas storage facility in southeastern Alberta, was averaging about C$7.95 per gigajoule as of Tuesday afternoon, up about 24 percent from Monday's average of C$6.43, according to Natural Gas Exchange (NGX). AECO gas traded as high as C$10.44 per gigajoule on Tuesday, said NGX -- a Calgary, Alberta-based gas exchange and clearing house. The temperature in Edmonton in south-central Alberta was -27 degrees C (-17 F) as of Tuesday afternoon, with an expected overnight low of -35 C (-31 F), Environment Canada said. The frigid temperatures, combined with a stiff wind that brought wind chills down to -50 C (-58 F), had frozen some production from Alberta gas wells, with temperatures deemed too low to allow workers to attempt to restart output, traders said. One Calgary, Alberta-based gas trader who did not wish to be identified said as much as two billion cubic feet per day of production from Alberta may have been shut in due to the cold. TransCanada PipeLines said that Alberta linepack, or the amount of gas in its Alberta pipeline system, was over 700 million cubic feet below target as of early Tuesday. The amount of linepack in the Alberta system, which moves about 18 percent of North American gas production, is a typical indicator of the amount of supply going into the pipeline. The frigid temperatures in western Canada were forecast to continue into the weekend, Environment Canada said. Traders said that while temperatures were not as cold in the U.S., there were also reports of shut-ins in the Midwest and the Rocky Mountain regions due to wells freezing. **** I seldom post RT. For one thing, I seldom have time, for another, I haven't sold anything for awhile, ggg. I will fess up I trimmed TGA hard first thing this morning to raise my own cash levels, probably buy back in when it finishes consolidating. Best Regards, Roebear
