It depends. For example if Dean is very vocal about issues like extending unemployment for these desperate people in Michigan, (who appear to be really quite desperate btw)- then Dean will win black votes imho. Dean got the support of unions for a reason.

Unemployment extensions

My husband has only 1 week of unemployment left and we will then have no income. There are no jobs and I don't know what will happen to us. It's amazing, all the billions of dollars, we spend to better the lives of other people, in other countries. What the hell about us, the "United States Citizen"? I don't know how it can be said, the economy is turning around and there are less people unemployed, it sure isn't that way here in Mason County. Factory, after factory is closing down in our community. The Bush Administration seems to care about every country, but our own. Does anyone care, there are a lot of us that lost our jobs and haven't been able to find another?

Dean requested minority room mates in school. Some of those friends are currently helping with Dean's campaign. I saw one interviewed & he said he always enjoyed discussing controversial racial issues with Dean because his interest was pure intellectual curiosity rather than pandering. He added Dean would never back down from strong arguments on the racial issues as so many others who easily caved in & thereby proved his genuine concern to his friend.
Did you notice that Mosely Braun directed her delegates to support Dean in Iowa. That should tell you something.

I can't see black voters going for Dean

I know a few blacks personally supporting Dean. They have told me they like the honesty they hear. Also his campaign has the feel of a grass root movement to them. One mention how scary the Patriot Act is to her. I think the south might be Dean's weakness. We shall see.
