I'm not being prejudiced but we have lousy news in this country and I feel Israel would be just as happy to have a quiet occupation and hope the people will somehow go away. We never heard of the building starvation in Africa a few years ago, until it was a major catastrophe. When the major networks, CBS, NBC,ABC were bought by corporations outside the news business, they shut down most of their overseas news bureaus. When NBC's "Friends" gave each of the cute little 20 somethings a raise to $1,000,000 a show, they also laid off 200 people from their news division. Everything I'm saying applies to me, living in America. Not to other middle-class people living in Europe, Canada or elsewhere. You said "You need to direct your ire to Arafat and the cowardly terrorist organizations, not the minority extremists in Israel who have little national and no international support." That's where we differ... what constitutes extremists who have little national support? The party in power WANTS that land. They want the water. Almost came to blows last year with Lebanon over water. They have a lot of support. Some of that support comes from some of my whacko countrymen, right wing Christians, who see their interpretation of the book of Revelations in the Bible and Armageddon and the eventual conversion of the jews in Israel right before we all go up in some massive atomic blast ending all of mankind. Our Speaker of the House, who has these religious views, actually spoke in front of the Knesset last year. I know Israelis are well aware of their beliefs but the right wing Christians currently have been very useful to Israel's interests. I have NO control over Arafat, but as a taxpayer in this country I may have some control over my government's policies (theoretically) and, thereby, over Israel because of my country's financial and military support. We also need a term that differentiates a religion, Jewish, from a country and it's policies. Zionist still has a negative ring to it. But all Jews are not Zionists. I don't know if all Zionists are Jews. One should be able to talk about people who want to set up a "Greater Israel" without being called anti-semetic or anti-jewish. They people who want to keep expanding the land continually try to block any discussion by equating arguments with being anti-jewish. It suits their ends by blocking any discussion. These ideas are discussed in the Jerusalem Post but not allowed in the USA.
