If I were an Israeli I would not trust any government to come to my aid given the historical record. This lack of trust is precisely what has to be overcome in order to achieve any progress. How to achieve that(on both sides) is one of many problems to be solved. Difficult as it seems the question of your bombed family is not central to the issue. What is central is if Israel can, from its position of overwhelming power, reach out to the Palestinians and beyond its fears to start the peace process again. Not being able to do that is part of the signature of paranoia.
