I hear that! we have a large gun shop about 10 minutes from where I live and I stay out of it as much as possible.

Got my permit when I was 22. This is the second pistol I bought. tcarms.com

Had intended to use it up north for hunting (no pistol hunting in CT) but it was such a pain in the ass to take it out of state I said the hell with it.

Haven't hunted in a long time. Got more into fresh water fishing with my Bro and like it so much better that hunting really took second fiddle over the past years.

Edit... I bought that gun with a 14" bull barrel and 44mag.

I'd say get a side by side shotgun with 2 triggers, the cheap kind. Buy it used, saw the barrels off to 18 and 1/4 inches. 00Buck in one barrel, #2 steel goose loads in the other. #2 steel will open a 2" hole half way through a person at 40' but not ruin your drywall. 00buck will go through your drywall and studs and still kill.

For a pistole' you may want to look at a Ruger .22. Regular cheap .22s to plink and a magnum cylinder for at home use.
