Reagan gave us 6-7 years of recessions and record debts to pay off following his tax-cut bonanza growth period. He also signed the S+L deregulation bill creating a 400 billion dollar boondoggle. He pushed an illegal war in Central America which turned out to have nothing to do with our national security and allowed drug cartels to flourish. Half his cabinet was indicted on various corruption and perjury charges. He appointed James Watt to Interior who was a terrible enemy of the environment, second only to the current Bush-Cheney regime. He cut mental health budgets so much that he cresated the homeless problem by tossing out tens of thousands of mentally disabled people onto the street. etc. etc.

Reagan did unite to a degree due to sheer charisma power, but he was by no means our greatest president. Also, in the final years of administration few knew it but Alzheimers had already set in and he wasn't even all there. Other people were running our government. I know for a fact that only two years after he left office he could not even remember the names of his best friends he had had lunch with a half hour before. That is not his fault but it is scary.
