Reagan was a semi great president, but far too right-wing to be loved by anyone but the far right. He was not a uniter, just delivered the goods to the far right and managed to pick off hard hat type votes to beat the wimpier Mondale.

As Reagan left office he could not even remember his close friends, was not functioning mentally, left us with huge debts, the S+L debacle gone haywire, tens of thousands of homeless people, half his cabinet indicted, etc. So in the end the legacy was marred. A truly great president unites the nation, commits no crminal acts or terrible mistakes, and leaves the books balanced. Reagan did all three so he was at most semi great like Clinton.

I have a feeling Kerry will trump them all. One thing he has more than any of them is honesty.
