Ann, this discussion is going astray. It is not about wives. Who si talking about Dr. Judy Dean? I have said that she is a very accomplished lady in her own right. And so is Teresa Heinz.

Let us get back to the candidates. Edwards is a trial lawyer. NOw a multimillionaire. Say he comes from humble beginnings. A trial lawyer making all that money the American way "by sheer hard work" would be a tough sell. Lawyers are not liked very much in the US. Now whether Edwards personally is a stereotyped lawyer or not is hard to tell. But his having made the millions has "the perception" problem.

But please let us keep wives out. Or shall we say spouses because in 2008 who knows it maybe a spouse and not a wife. It could happen even this year during the Democratic convention is Boston is there is no clear winner.

You have stated that your ideal ticket is Dean/Edwards or Edwards/Dean. Dean has squandered his chances and he has no chance of coming back. Reports today indicate that his crowds in Washington are significantly smaller.

While Dean's ideas are good, the people feel that he is too far out to the left and hence not in a position to defeat Bush. Bush is too far out to the right, Dean is on the other side of the spectrum. If that is the choice given to the people then they would choose the status quo and re-elect Bush.

On the other hand, if they have to look at Kerry and his liberal centrist views, they are more likely to consider him as a strong alternative to Bush.

Regarding Edwards, the Democrats are looking for a war hero over that of a mill worker since they know that Bush is going to play up the security and defence factor and Edwards does not have a record to show over that of Kerry's.

So to have Dean and Edwards and not Kerry would give the election away to Bush. I don't think it is "irrational exuberance" portrayed by the Democrats when they talk about Kerry. Not sure if that is true of the supporters of Dean.

Ann, I am aware that Deaniacs such as yourself get fired up over the message of Dean. And that is the way to be. His message is something that we all need to stand behind. But shouldn't we have a different "messenger". Kerry has already started to talk like Dean but also with the status of a war hero. Question we need to ask is: what is more important, to get Dean into the White House or to get Bush out of the White House. If we cannot get Dean into the White House then at least let us try to get Bush out of the White House.
