I don't see how you go from not knowing what the SSC was to the SSC sucking up most scientific funding. We will have to disagree on whether the project would have been worthwhile.

One more point, Texas also put a billion dollars of its own money in the SSC only to have it shot down by people like Ted Kennedy and John Kerry.
