It was the Garn-St.Germain act and had bipartisan support....interestingly....as you may recall of the Keating Five implicated in the S&L scandals...4 were demolibs.....Speaker Jim Wright, another demolib was also forced to resign due to his cozy ties with S&L execs.

Reagan signed the Garnes-St Germaine S+L deregulaion act his second year in office and proclaimed it a great day for free enterprise. It turned out to be a 400 billion ripff by mainly GOP special interests of the public treasury. Reagan ignored it and let Bush Sr. clean up the mess. Same type of pigs at the trough we see now under Bush. Their energy bill alone would been a 20 billion giveaway to campaign contributors who don't need it. Their Medicare bill is another 20 billion (to start) giveaway. These people are corrupt and they stink. John McCain agrees.
