I know it to the same degree that I know Icarus did not fly to the sun with wax wings. The "evidence" for either event is unconvincing. They are both a part of nonsensical stories that were common to the pre-scientific mind. Just as I don't make crops grow by sacrificing goats and spattering blood on my thumbs and toes and ears; neither do I attribute disease to demons or "temptation" to the devil. Of course, you may believe silly stories if you wish. But I prefer to have a bit of solid ground beneath my feet...
