" No, silly, the liberation of Kuwait was a necessary war. Re: " Did Truman kill tens of thousands of Americans in Korea? " No, silly, the protection of Korea was a necessary war. In case you haven't figured it out, WW2 started when Germany invaded Poland and we got involved when Japan attacked the US. We fought against the aggressors, we had no choice. The Kuwait Liberation got started when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, we forced him back out. The Korean war got started when North Korea invaded South Korea. In all these examples of wars, we fought on the side of the defense against the side which started the war (each time with a preemptive attack). This is in sharp contrast to the present situation in Iraq where it was we who played the bully, lied about our intentions to allow Iraq to peacefully disarm, forced UN inspectors to leave Iraq, and then began a preemptive war based on at best faulty, probably deliberately distorted, and at worst completely bogus secret intelligence. I am an "America, right or wrong" type patriot. But do note that the phrase "America right or wrong" implicitly recognizes that American is not always right. Only a self-righteous bozo would believe that any man or nation is immune from error. When America is wrong, I will fight against it, in at least the weak manner you see on SI. But no matter what America does, it will always be my country, and I will always support it, right or wrong. Re: "That there would be no war was part of it. " Yeah, I am a Republican, I voted for Bush, and I really thought that he (or his administration) was smart enough not to destroy the Republican party through an unnecessary and unwinnable war. But hey, that was a political decision essentially by one man, where pretty much anything can happen. Probably the best argument for the dangerousness of Saddam Hussein is the dangerousness of George Bush, LOL. The American public generally votes Republican for two reasons. First, they think that the Republicans run a more rational foreign policy. Bush just blew that concept completely out of the water. Second, they think that the Republicans have more fiscal responsibility. It's not Bush's fault, it's the economy that has put us in such deep deficit spending, but the public is stupid, they'll blame Bush for that too. Yeah, I was wrong about Bush's intentions, but I'm better at the details of military power, which is a subject near and dear to my heart. -- Carl P.S. Confuscius says: Never listen to the military advice of someone who loathes the military.
