Hi Carl, I’ve been traveling a lot lately and haven't been able to post much.

How do I feel?

Here is one thing I underestimated regarding the situation in Iraq. I saw, but didn't imagine our press and leaders from the Democratic Party giving so much support to the terrorists and remaining Bathists in Iraq. With the election coming up, the remaining terrorists are making an all out effort to unseat GW and therefore end our just cause fight for freedom there. Unfortunately, just about every Democrat candidates is now supporting the terrorists instead of our troops and giving them hope.

A couple of days ago, I spoke with a few soldiers from the U.S. Army in Frankfurt Germany who were enroute to the states from 9 months in Iraq. They reported the situation is difficult and deteriorating in places around Baghdad. From their perspective, roadblocks everywhere are holding the situation together. They even reported cynically what we blow up at night; we end up rebuilding the next day. Traveling is a real pain and you can imagine it adds to the frustration of Iraqi's who just want to get on with their lives. The rest of the country they report is much better off, and things are moving in a positive direction. I was tempted to catch a flight to Baghdad and see things for myself, by my wife would probably kill me if she found out! :)

More difficult than I expected? Yes, a Vietnam as you've suggested over and over, no.

The main reason this is not going to turn into a Vietnam quagmire is because of the kind of military we have today. Our leaders aren't going to let the troops sit around and smoke dope while the enemy finds a stronger foothold. They are going to continue to bring the fight to the terrorists and hunt them down any way they can.

Our people are trained and dedicated to the task, and eventually we will either turn things completely over to the free Iraqi armed forces and police entities, or the attacks will come to a stop.

There is a gap between your Vietnam view and my more positive outcome. And I believe we will fill that gap, while the Iraqi people build a free and peaceful nation.
