I don't see how a longing for symbolism encourages a belief in "God"--particularly not the kinds crafted by our primitive forebears in the Age of Superstition. It seems to me like petitio principii--God must exist because otherwise I would not be separated from Him, as evidenced by my disquiet. Hmmm...
