The idea of pre-emptive attack on threatening nations got some bad press today with King George II fumbling around over weapons of mass destruction, programmes for weapons of mass destruction and ending up lamely saying that Saddam was a threat, despite the fact that Saddam's ability to threaten was very low and was showing no sign of attacking the USA, though he did fund Palestinian suicide bombers who killed some American citizens.

When the USA PNAC perceives a threat and springs to the attack in pre-emptive self-defence, the rest of us can take a fairly jaundiced view of their efforts. Let's hope they don't go rabid over Iran, Syria and North Korea, none of whom have made me think they need to be attacked.

Meanwhile, Gary Kasparov is taking on Putin. Cool! BBC World is saying Gary is a Liberal. Committee 2008. He says Russia is a police state. Parliament is a joke.

Let the games begin,
