Democrats carry weight with Kerry
29/01/2004

The Democrats in the United States are preparing to challenge a sitting president who is both very effective, but also oddly vulnerable. George W Bush's war against Iraq has put the controversial concept of pre-emptive foreign policy firmly at the heart of planning. The doubts about this could be successfully exploited by serious Democrat challengers, who could then move onto many other issues on which Bush is weak, such as fiscal extravagance and a poorly performing economy.

The New Hampshire primary gave John Kerry a clear win. As a former soldier, and a senator who voted for the Iraq war, he could neutralise the Republican's efforts to portray the Democrats as weak on defence. The other frontrunners are retired general Wesley Clark and North Carolina Senator John Edwards, both of whom are tough on security.

The primaries so far show that the Democrats are looking for a candidate who will give Bush a run for his money. If they get into their stride, the president will not be able to win on a simple patriotic appeal. He will have to explain himself a lot better than he has so far, which will make him more vulnerable.

>>jake Straw is a former acid head who took too much and turned into a hardlinew right-wing

I sent that to my friend who's a lawyer. Libel on a public internet website really isn't too smart, but I certainly wouldn't expect you to realize that!

You know NOTHING about me, but soon may find out what your total disregard to facts & libelous statements get you.

I EXPECT AN APOLOGY!!

BTW, prove Mr. No-nothing Bigmouth that I'm "hardlinew (sic) right-wing". C'mon I dare you to!
