PT,

I also remembered that Saddam's son in law claimed the WMD's had been destroyed. He had told the truth yet no one believed him at the time.

I find it most interesting that people don't consider Saddam's bravado as playng a role in his behavior. He couldn't afford to look weak before other Arabs for many reasons..............ego is only one part of the need to appear strong. He needed to keep up the front and appear strongly fortified so his internal enemies wouldn't attack him. I have Palestinian friends who claimed that the people of Iraq would have torn Saddam apart if his body guards had been removed. Regime change didn't need to include "Shock and Awe".

We now see the Shiites gaining power and demanding elections while the Kurds demand a separate state. The Shiites would win any democratic election and vote in a theocracy similar to that of Iran.

Saddam is similar to Titov of Yugoslavia............he needed a strong hand to control all the separate factions of his society so as to avoid civil war. I DON'T support Saddam in any way and consider him a tyrant but I now can understand the complexities of the region better as Iraq moves toward a civil war.

The Shiites will not allow women the rights they had under Saddam so saying he liberated women is just another lie of the Bushistas...........what a disaster!! The entire region is destabilizing further into violence.

Saddam's capture hasn't even stopped the violence against Israel !

Bush has opened up Pandora's Box and turned a fan on the toxic content.
