Chinu. IMO there is only one thing, one kind of communication that arab muslims and muslim terrorist understand and that is unquestionable overwhelming brute force.

Show a bit of compassion a bit of appeasement in the hope it will lead to peace talks and it will be viewed by the arab muslims as a sign of weakness...a sign that terrorism works.

I marvel at Israeli restraint.

Palestinians see victory in prisoner exchange
Confirms armed 'resistance' can achieve goal of 'liberating' land
January 31, 2004

Israel's release of more than 400 Palestinian terrorist-related prisoners this week in exchange for three Israeli soldiers and the victim of a Hezbollah kidnapping will encourage more abductions, says an observer of the Palestinian media.

"Confirming Israel's fears, the Palestinian media has cited numerous PA sources expressing the sentiment that Hezbollah has created the precedent, and the 'resistance' is more effective than negotiations," said Itamar Marcus, director of Israel-based Palestinian Media Watch.

Marcus said Arafat's Fatah "emphasized the necessity to follow in the footsteps of the act of Hezbollah, so that all prisoners and detainees will be released."

Citing the Palestinian daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah, Marcus said the minister for prisoners and detainees affairs, Hisham Abdul-Raziq, expressed joy at the completion of Hezbollah's exchange with the Israeli government.

A spokesman for the relatives of prisoners in Israeli jails, Halid Al-Hatib, said: "The government of Israel, by reaching this agreement, sends the Palestinians a message, which indicates that the releasing of your prisoners will not happen through negotiations."

Palestinian National Council member Basam Abu Sharif thanked Hezbollah for its action, describing it as a "Pan-Arab" success, deserving respect.

The Palestinian terrorist groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad described the deal as "an achievement."

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyah told Agence France-Presse: "This deal confirms that the resistance is a realistic and a practical option, which is capable of achievements to liberate the land and people."

The wife of prisoner Nafiz Haraz, a resident of Gaza who served 19 years of his life sentence, said "every single prisoner who is released is an achievement for us and a victory for the resistance."

"We thank [Hezbollah leader] Shiek Nasrallah for this important achievement of releasing prisoners," she said. "He is the hawk of the Arabs ... ."

Al-Hayat Al-Jadidah commented: "The [Palestinian] citizens believe that Hezbollah's action opened a new door of hope for the families of the prisoners, after it was closed during the [discussions of] political solutions between the [Palestinian] National Authority and Israel, which did not lead to any practical results … ."

The paper said the military branch of Arafat's Fatah movement organized a civil and military parade Wednesday in Rafah "to express appreciation and gratitude for the efforts made by Hezbollah" in the prisoner deal.

The Fatah military branch issued a manifesto, the daily said, which "emphasized the necessity to follow in the footsteps of the act of Hezbollah, so that all prisoners and detainees will be released."

Re: He has failed miserably in his war on terrorism. He is step behind. He fought Saddam thinking he would be on a victory path in his "war on terrorism". He was daed wrong. Violence in Iraq has increased.

Of course Bush has failed in fighting terrorism.... because the only, deadly terrorist threat he faces is JUDEOFASCIST terrorism and, as I put it again and again, Prez Bush doesn't want to start an American civil war.

Well, if I were American I would have voted for G.W. Bush in 2000 and AGAIN in 2004!!! Why? Heck, because, so far, the only thing I disagree with, the only initiative I oppose, is the war on Iraq and the following US occupation... Remember, however, that I support the war in Afghanistan --but is it really a "war"??? I don't think so: it would have been a war --and an ugly, bloody one-- if the RUSSKIES had (re-)invaded Afghanistan in September 2001... Better the Yanks in Afghanistan than the Russkies --for the Pashtuns' sake.

As for the occupation of Iraq, as I said, it all stems from ISRAEL's blackmail. It's now obvious that Israel was on the brink of launching a missile blitz on Iraq anytime in 2003, using both her fighter-bombers and subs (loaded with cruise missiles). Hence, by the same token as in Afghanistan, the US had to pre-empt yet another "major crisis"... Bottom line: the US is acting as a mercenary fire-fighting brigade, and doing the dirty job(s).

Now, would it be different with J.F. Kerry? or with Dean? Or with Tweedle dee? or Tweedle dum? Nope! And I'd even say it'd be WORSE. Keep in mind that G.W. was the first US President to ever utter that P-word --PALESTINE. He repeatedly claimed that he was committed to the creation of a Palestinian state... All in all, it's because Bush earnestly wanted to sort out the Mideast that he ended up in the mess he's been in since 911. He underestimated the fierce opposition by the Judeofascist gang to ANY accommodation with the Palestinians. I think the secret hope of Sharon and his Zionist supporters is the death of Arafat --I mean a NATURAL death, not an Israeli bomb....

Of course, if Bush remains in office for another four years, it means that his Judeocon retinue will hang around as well, but those Zionist freaks will ALWAYS mess around the White House anyway! The US Zionist lobby is powerful and smart enough to back the horse both ways: the Dems and their large Jewish, liberal, and yet pro-Israel, constituency, and the Repubs and their Judeocons (aka Neocons).
