Yes the troops are doing great because they are highly trained but most of the 500 deaths were unnecessary if things had been done right.
Kindly provide documentation to back that statement. THis should include incident analyses for each incident resulting in death and proof that Kevlar vest would have prevented the deaths.

The US has about 130,000 troops in Iraq.

Average mortality per 100,000 US population in 1999 was 877.

Based on this, the mortality of the troops in Iraq (approx 500 per 130,000 in close to a year) is less than the mortality had they remained in the US.
