Ethics are practical. Those who call themselves "realists", create a world of violence and desperation for billions, where the rich sit anxiously on their hoard, surrounded by the HaveNots. The only real international laws today are:
1. Me First
2. Might Makes Right
3. the Golden Rule (those who have the gold, make the rules).

<What seems normal now in international relations and relationships between the state and individuals would seem as barbaric as cannibalism, slavery and women as chattels, if considered from what is currently thought of as a Utopian ideal of worldwide law and civilization.>

It's barbaric, considered by the standard of behavior enforced on my children's elementary school playground: No Hitting; Take Your Turn.
